- Picnic marks EBI's 55th Anniversary
KEMPTVILLE—Eastern Breeders Incorporated’s 55th Anniversary Family Picnic was held at Head Office in Kemptville on September 7 to commemorate its 55th year of providing artificial insemination service to breeders and members. The weather was beautiful and some 800 people enjoyed the day.
Modeled after the annual open houses EBI members and staff enjoyed throughout the 1960’s, it was a day of reminiscing with friends and celebration. Many colleagues and suppliers from over the years brought promotional displays which were very informative. For the younger crowd, there was face painting, clowns, antique tractors and cars, an oxen display with wagon rides, lots of games and an air bounce area.
Without a doubt, the highlight of the day was the EBI tour. The office building was open to visitors where memorabilia displays had been set up, semen handling and distribution tours were held, lab personnel discussed semen quality issues and the main barn was open to view some of the top bulls currently being marketed around the world, like Stouder Morty.
A short program followed the tours, activities, displays and a filling BBQ cooked by the Kemptville Lions. Master of Ceremonies, former Board President (1999) representing Grenville County, Russell Bennett welcomed everyone to the facilities in Kemptville. On hand to speak was current 1st Vice President, Ron Greaves, The Semex Alliance General Manager, Harvey Wood, Township of North Grenville Mayor, Bruce Harrison, and EBI General Manager, Vince Bosquet. Mr. Greaves spoke of attending past picnics as a child with his parents and pointed out the rare and wonderful opportunity it was for everyone present to see the great sires of our time.
Mayor Bruce Harrison presented EBI with a Certificate of Congratulations for their accomplishments in achieving national and international recognition in the Agricultural Industry. Retired, long time staff members, Loretta Wilson and Don Moorhouse proudly cut and served the anniversary cake.
Bosquet summed up the reasons for holding the picnic during his presentation when he said "Succeeding for 55 years is not just a matter of luck. Throughout our history, we have had great people involved with EBI. To all these people, past and present, we owe a debt of gratitude."
Bosquet also made a special point of thanking the 55th Anniversary Committee and all the staff and volunteers identified by their red picnic T-shirts, who contributed to making the day a success.
