  • The Editor:

Hello, my name is McKenna Modler.

I live on a dairy farm owned and operated by my grandfather Neil Modler, my dad Scott, and my uncle Joe and I have a brain tumour.

I am 12 years old and love living on the farm, and I have been surrounded by farm magazines all my life. So it seemed natural to ask for your help in promoting something that will benefit so many, and that has come to mean so much to me.

I was diagnosed on November 5, 2010, after almost two years of headaches. Now after 70 weekly treatments of chemo and no tumour growth so far(crossing our fingers!) the Pediatric Cancer Clinic had become a part of my extended family. I know how hard it was for my family emotionally and financially, They both tried to go to every appointment, regardless if it was in Kingston or in Toronto. Some kids are not as lucky as I am and I would like to change that.

I am having a Fundraiser on July 29,2012 at the Lansdowne Fairgrounds. All money raised will go to the Children's Cancer Fund of Kinston. This fund not only helps families in Kingston but also families in any of the surrounding areas, such as Brockville, Belleville, Trenton and every where inbetween.

We will be having a Live and Silent Auction, a Pie by the Slice Bake Sale and a Kids Corner. The tickets will include entry and pulled beef-on-a-bun and salads which we will be serving. GayLea has been generous enough to supply us with chocolate milk, as well as many of our local grocers.

If you would like more information on my 'Dream' you can check out my Facebook pages:

-McKenna's Dream Let's Raise Money for the Children's Cancer Fund of Kingston

As well Patty Jansen, a Liason Nurse, part of the Pediatric Oncology Team in Kingston will be happy to answer any questions you have about how the moneys raised will benefit the families at the Cancer Clinic. Her phone # is 613-549-6666 ext 3832, pager # 613-650-3475, her a-mail address is jansen@kgh.kari.net.

The second Facebook page listed contains all the Auction items we have received so far, it changes all the time. Everyone has been so generous! GayLea, Gateview Equipment, Norwell Dairy, our local John Deere, and the local dairy clubs to name a few.

Please help me make my Dream come true. We need your help to let people know about what I am trying to do.

It takes a family to raise a child and a community to make a Dream come true!

    Thank you so much,

    McKenna Modler
