NORTH STORMONT - A 43-year-old Cornwall man has been charged with careless driving after his 1997 GMC pickup truck collided head-on with a passenger vehicle while trying to pass a farm tractor on Highway 138 Wed., Oct. 28. The accident left one person dead and five injured.
Jeffrey Goulet of Cornwall was southbound on Highway 138 near Tayside in North Stormont Township when he pulled out to pass a farm tractor. In attempting to pass Goulet crashed head on into a northbound 1997 Saturn driven by Paul Carver, 40, of North Bay.
Both Goulet and his 38-year-old passenger, Bonnie Goulet, were transported to the Cornwall Regional Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Carver was air lifted to the Ottawa Civic Hospital with non-life threatening injuries but his 39-year-old passenger, Shannon Carver, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two other passengers in the northbound Saturn, 10- and 15-year-old boys, were transported to the Cornwall Regional Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
There were no charges against the driver of the tractor.
