Thanks from the West
Hay West efforts appreciated

The Editor:

The Coronation and District Chamber of Commerce would like to extend its sincere appreciation to the Wyatt and Willard McWilliams families of Navan, Ontario for the excellent job they did in organizing the Hay West Program.

We would also extend a sincere thank you to all the farmers from Eastern Canada who donated hay to the program and all those who assisted in organizing, hauling, loading and assisting in any way.

This was a huge undertaking and it really demonstrates what people in this country can do by working together to assist in an emergency. The Coronation Region was one of the areas that was especially devastated due to a severe infestation of grasshoppers in addition to the drought.

The grasshoppers left thousands of acres looking like they had just been cultivated. Many farmers in the area did not harvest a bushel of grain or make a bale of hay.

The western farmers recognize the generosity and effort of the eastern farmers in making the Hay West program the success that it was. This was a real morale booster. It exemplifies the strength of rural Canada.
