CHESTERVILLE—Crafters and artisans, it’s time to think about reserving a booth at the Crafters Tent of the International Ploughing Match 2001, to be held near Navan from September 18 to 22, 2001.
Marilyn Johnson, chair of the Family Lifestyles Committee for IPM 2001 says this is an ideal opportunity for exposure and sales of craft items.
"With average attendance ranging from 60,000 to over 100,000 visitors over the five day period, what more could you ask for?" says Johnson.
Having visited the Crafters Tent at this year’s match in Wellington County, Johnson was very impressed by the display. "It was mind-boggling," she says. "Some of the crafts are very interesting. One person made jewellery, another did woodworking, there were weavers, quilters, including machine quilters. There were people who make kids clothes, sweat shirts, floral puppets and one lady who does ties. There’s everything you can think of. It’s fantastic the things that they make."
Johnson says between 80 to 100 applications have been sent out to the addresses on business cards collected at the Wellington match and from other events and places. The Crafters Tent has space for between 55 to 65 booths, and Johnson hopes to attract as many crafters as possible. "We want the local crafters to get involved," she says.
"You have to send an application with four photographs, representing a selection of what will be offered for sale. We’re asking for good clear photographs, so we can get a good idea of your work."
Applications may be obtained from Johnson by calling 613-448-2636 or by email to donilyn@igs.net and should be sent back to Johnson before November 30.
The work will be judged by a committee of jurors, and jurying will be done in December and early January and successful applicants will be notified by January 15, 2001.
