Co-ops honour Embrun's Denis Bourdeau

BURLINGTON - A man who has spent his lifetime working on behalf of Prescott-Russell area co-operatives and community organizations was recognized for his dedication to the co-operative movement. Denis Bourdeau, director, Conseil de la cooperation de l’Ontario, received the Lifetime Achievement Spirit Award of the Ontario Co-operative Association (On Co-op) at the annual Co-op Gala and Spirit Awards in Burlington.

Bourdeau, of Embrun, has worked to promote awareness of the value of co-operatives in communities. In nominating him, the management of La Co-operative Agricole d’Embrun Limitée praised Bourdeau’s dedication to the co-operative way of life, commenting, "He has contributed to the heritage and evolution of the Ontario Co-operative Movement, particularly in Eastern Ontario, by providing leadership in the development of new co-ops, remaining true to existing co-ops and taking opportunities to promote the co-op model and principles".

Under the theme of Share, Learn, Grow, the Co-op Gala presents a day of meetings, workshops and networking opportunities, and culminates in the annual Co-operative Spirit Recognition Awards dinner. The Gala took place at the Royal Botanical Gardens, Burlington, Wed., Oct. 18.

Gala sponsors include co-operatives of all sizes - Credit Union Central of Ontario, Gay Lea Foods Co-operative, GROWMARK, Inc., The Co-operators, BDO Dunwoody, the CUMIS Group, the Co-operative Housing Federation of Canada (Ontario Region), Growthworks Capital Ltd., Iler Campbell, Lerners LLP, Meridian Credit Union, Ontario Natural Food Co-op, Prentice, Yates and Clark, AgEnergy Co-operative, Carlson Wagonlit Travel, Canadian Alternative Investment Co-operative, Foss National Leasing, Land O’Lakes Feed, Unisync Group Ltd. and Moonscape Multimedia. The Spirit Awards dinner featured food items provided by Ontario co-operatives.

The Gala and Spirit Awards are presented by the Ontario Co-operative Association. The Ontario Co-operative Association is the primary resource in Ontario for the development and enhancement of co-operatives and credit unions across the province.
