KEMPTVILLE - Friday the Thirteenth brought nothing but good fortune to Donnanview Farms Ltd. as their first-place mature cow, Deelett Cousteau Victoria, a Silky Cousteau daughter born April 18, 2000, took the grand Champion of Show rosette at the 20th annual Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec Holstein Show in the AM Barr Arena here.
Judge Martin Roberge of Notre Dame du Bon Conseil, PQ, named Ferme Blondin’s first-place junior three-year-old, Caliente Igniter Rene, a Summershade Igniter daughter born April 15, 2003, Reserve Grand.
Honourable Mention went to Breezehill Holsteins’ first-place senior three-year-old, Coubi Champion Nuagine, born Oct. 28, 2002.
Exhibitors showed 202 head - 100 cows and 102 heifers - down slightly from the number shown in 2005.
Premier Breeder this year was Herb Henderson with Ferme Lolisee taking reserve. Premier Exhibitor was Ferme Blondin with Ferme Lolisee again taking the reserve.
A Beauty and Utility Award for highest BCA for milk, fat and protein among first- and second-place animals was won by Ferme Blondin and Pierre Boulet’s first-place four-year-old, Kingsway Leduc Gabriel, on records of 251, 296 and 273.
Junior Champion was Ferme Blondin’s first-place junior yearling, Blondin Lyster Beauty, a TCET Lyster daughter.
Junior reserve was Ferme Gillette and Kirchiro Ito’s Gillette Dominant Kariness, the first-place senior calf. She is a Laintou Dominant daughter.
Honourable Mention was Scott Brown’s 4-H entry.
Ferme Gillette had the first-place Junior Herd. Herbert Henderson was second and Ferme Blondin was third. Ferme Lolisee had the top Breeder’s Herd.
