Farming operations had previously been exempt from the requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act. Employers, supervisors and workers on farming operations should be aware that new duties and responsibilities are now in effect as of June 30, 2006.

Farm Safety Association
The Farm Safety Association has announced that the employer's package for the Occupational Health and Safety Act will be available on August 1st.
A shortlist of contents includes the Act, the guide to the Act and the guidelines, the new Agricultural Safety Audit program ( ASAP checklist), the cd of the templates, an Employment Standards Act ( ESA) poster and the ESA exemptions poster, regulations 1101 and a Workplace Safety and Insurance Board ( WSIB) poster. There are also a number of checklists and other materials.
The majority of these products are also posted on the FSA website as free downloads, A listing of the package contents is on the web page which can be found on the front page as a "new item" it can also be found under new items.
The package can be ordered by phoning the farm safety association at 519-823-5600 or through their Webpage at www.farmsafety.ca. The cost of the package is $21.50 plus shipping. The price reflects a cost recovery basis only for the package.
