Public Safety Minister Stockwell Day has confirmed that the Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) had suspended its arrest and deportation orders against the Michael Van Hauve family until March 7.
The Ontario Landowners Association (OLA) announced the brief suspension in a press release issued Feb. 28, saying that the family, which it had taken into "protective custody" Jan. 12 to prevent their deportation back to Belgium, may be getting out of its Catch-22 situation and that Immigrataion and CBSA authorities may extend the suspension of the deportation order.
The Van Hauves have incurred $32,000 in legal expenses in their fight to remain in Canada and the OLA will be holding a benefit for the family at the St. Isidore Arena Sat., April 15. Day and fellow cabinet member Monte Solberg, minister of Immigration, have been invited to the event, as has GPR MP Pierre Lemieux.
