Prowl Essay Competition
Cyanamid Crop Protection is sponsoring a Prowl Essay Competition for Ontario High School Students (Grades 9 to OAC). The essay must be 500 to 600 words in length . The subject of the essay is "Agriculture in the 21st Century". Participants must choose one of the five topics and predicts its role in agriculture. Topics to choose from are: Biotechnology in Agriculture; Specialized Production; Precision Farming; Contract Farming; The Evolution of the Global Market and the Effect it will have on Agriculture. The essay must be typed or a computer printout or hand written neatly on standard 8.5" x 11" paper. The essay must be doubled spaced and all pages stapled together in the upper left hand corner. Each entry must be accompanied by an official entry form stapled to the front. These forms are available the Prowl Essay Competition 1-800-263-1228 or at the website www.farmlinepartners.com. The deadline for application is April 30, 1999. Send entries to the Prowl Essay Competition, Ontario Corn Producers, 90 Woodlawn Road West, Guelph, ON, N1H 1B2.
There will be five winners, one for each region as defined by the Ontario Corn Producers Association. Each winner will receive $1500. The student with the best essay will receive an additional $500 and the high school of the top winner will receive $2000 to be used for computer hardware and software. The scholarship money will be held in trust until the student begins their post secondary education.
Essay will be judged using a scoring system that accounts for the students grade as well as the organization, style, content and originality of the essay.
