Avonmore Fair 4-H Open Calf Rally
Avonmore Fair is hosting a 4-H Open Calf Rally for 4-H Dairy and Beef Members on Saturday July 19, 2003. The Dairy Show starts at 10 am and the Beef Show starts at 12 noon.
This is an excellent opportunity for 4-H members to practice some of their showmanship skills in a show ring environment before their club achievement day. The Calf Rally will have Showmanship Classes and Conformation Classes for
4-H calves. Senior Showmanship if for 4-H members 18 years of age and older by January 1, 2003. Intermediate Showmanship is for members 14 years to 17 years as of January 1, 2003. Junior Showmanship if for members 10 years to 13 years as of January 1, 2003.
Dairy Conformation Classes are by breeds and include Junior Heifer, Intermediate Heifer, Senior Heifer, Summer Yearling Heifer and Junior Yearling Heifer. Beef classes offered are Beef Heifer Calf, Beef Junior Yearling, Beef Senior Yearling and Beef Steer Class. Classes with fewer than three entries will be combined with others.
The Fair is also sponsoring a Tie Stall Competition to make the livestock tie up area attractive to fair visitors. Clubs are invited to decorate their area of the barn. Themes within agriculture are encouraged. Judging will be from 9 am to 2 pm.
Avonmore Fair is also offering a Children's Special for boys and girls who were not 10 years old on January 1, 2003. Participants may use a 4-H calf at the show or bring their own calf from home for the class. Calves can be either dairy or beef. Participants can register on the day of the show by
Each exhibitor in the 4-H rally must show his or her own 4-H project. Exhibitors must bring proper ID for their animal according to the Project Information Sheet. Participants must also have a parent release form signed (on entry form) releasing Roxborough Agricultural Society from all responsibilities for the participants actions.
This year only active and current 4-H members shall be allowed to assist in the preparation of livestock at the Avonmore 4-H Open Calf Rally.
Deadline for entries is Friday July 4. Avonmore Fair will review the numbers and if numbers do not warrant either the dairy or beef show proceeding all entries will be notified of any show cancellation.

Take 4-H Out To The Ball Game, Take 4-H Out To The Park...
4-H slides into Lynx Stadium in Ottawa at 1:05 pm on July 13, 2003 for a
4-H Day with the Ottawa Lynx, Ottawa's triple A baseball team.
4-H associations across Eastern Ontario will be selling tickets to the ball game to raise funds to support local clubs and events.
"This is a great opportunity for members, their friends and families and a wonderful way to spend a Sunday afternoon" says Barb Keith, local Association Support Representative for 4-H Ontario. "There will be plenty of in-between inning fun and as well as interactive agriculture displays on the concourse".
