The Ontario East Economic Development Commission and the Ontario Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing is partnering to present the Ontario Municipal East Municipal Conference on September 20, 21, 22, 2000. The Conference is being held at the Ambassador Hotel in Kingston.
The Conference is an annual event and is designed to be of interest to elected and appointed municipal officials. Current topics relating to provincial legislation and its impact on the municipal sector, economic development issues and tourism activities are presented throughout the three day event. The material is presented through plenary sessions, workshops with feature speakers and hands on activities and networking opportunities to share experiences of interest to small, rural, medium and urban communities. The conference also has an exhibit program showcasing business and programs of interest to the municipal sector.
The kick off to the Conference is a special Pre Conference Workshop on Wed., Sept. 20 on "Managing Change". This one day workshop is planned for staff and elected representatives to help identify opportunities for change and share successes.
The keynote speaker on Thurs. Sept. 21 is Ann Medina, one of Canada’s most recognized and respected journalists. Her address entitled "Partnerships or Puppets? Who Calls the Shots’ will discuss how to balance the benefits and needs of partnerships between public and private organizations.
