  • Educational Opportunities Cow Profitability Workshops

The Profitability Sub Committee of the Dairy Extension Group has organized a series of six meetings across Ontario in January. The committee is made up of representatives from Dairy Farmers of Ontario, Ontario DHI, Large Herd Operators, Dairy Breeds, Association of Bovine Practitioners, University of Guelph, AI Organizations and OMAFRA.

The meetings will focus on Profitability with particular attention to the Transition Cow. The meetings will involve a barn meeting in the morning with lunch and afternoon speakers at a hall location.

Dr. Ewen Ferguson will lead the Transition Cow at the on farm presentation and in the afternoon will continue with the presentation Handling the Transition Cow Effectively to Enhance Your Profits. A producer panel will discuss their viewpoints on the Transition Cow. The day will conclude with a presentation by Lloyd Wicks on Practical Cow Profitability Indicator – Are you accurately identifying which cows make you the most profit.

The two sessions in Eastern Ontario are scheduled for Jan. 26, at the Farm of Maria and Theo Nyentap, Russell and the Marionville Community Centre. The second program is on Jan. 27 at Domar Holsteins owned by Alain and Diana Legault, Moose Creek and at the Maxville Sportsplex. The sessions start at the farm at 10 am. The cost for the day is $20 and tickets are available from your EBI field representative.
